Thank you, Aaliya. I know you know how difficult it is to write a story like this, and that makes your kindness and encouragement especially appreciated.
I love your brain and I love your writing. Please keep being you because it's bloody brilliant. I need to read your stuff more often.
My dad was really into sci-fi - more than he was into his family. It was a bit of an addiction. My mum responded by banning me from reading anything with fantasy. No Harry Potter, no Narnia, no LOTR. I rebelled when I was 16, hiding the books behind other books on the bookshelf so she wouldn't see them.
Hi Mancee - thank you so much for the encouragement.
I have some especially dark days lately, and on such days I am undecided if I should continue to make the effort to write. It is hard work for me… none of the words come easily. And this piece, in particular, is one that I held back for a few weeks… uncertain if I should post it, or drop it in the bin.
Today was a dark day, and your comment came through the clouds like a beam of sunlight. Thanks for loving my crazy brain and the words that it sometimes manages to grind out. That means a lot. Thanks for the time you spent to read my writing; I will be very happy to return the favour and read yours.
ps. The dynamic between your mum and dad sounds like it must have been really difficult to navigate when you were young. Your “rebellion” is exactly the sort of thing that I’d have done. Any time I had money at that age, I went to the bookshop.
Your writing is so immersive and emotionally surgical. Just brilliant

I do think you need more therapy but maybe more ink.
Grazie. 🙃

Amazing work Dante - honestly. Thank you for being brave and putting it out there. It takes guts. As long as you keep doing it, I'll keep reading.
I'm sorry you've had some dark days lately. Life can be rough. Ou brains and emotions can be rough. Keep hanging in there.
